Default GOP may OK tax increase

This is interesting. No tax increase, well maybe on the lower class. But certainly not on our donors.

IMO taxes need to go up for EVERYONE and spending needs to be down a min. of 10% across the board.

GOP may OK tax increase that Obama hopes to block - Yahoo! News

Impossible, right? GOP lawmakers are so virulently anti-tax, surely they will fight to prevent a payroll tax increase on virtually every wage-earner starting Jan. 1, right?

    Apparently not.

Many of the same Republicans who fought hammer-and-tong to keep the George W. Bush-era income tax cuts from expiring on schedule are now saying a different "temporary" tax cut should end as planned. By their own definition, that amounts to a tax increase.

The tax break extension they oppose is sought by President Barack Obama. Unlike proposed changes in the income tax, this policy helps the 46 percent of all Americans who owe no federal income taxes but who pay a "payroll tax" on practically every dime they earn.

    ...

That worries Rep. David Camp, R-Mich., chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, and a member of the House-Senate supercommittee tasked with finding new deficit cuts. Tax reductions, "no matter how well-intended," will push the deficit higher, making the panel's task that much harder, Camp's office said.

Actually, this is a great topic because it demonstrates so much about the LEFT, not the right. Let's examine things.

Let's begin by laying out the issue. What it refers to is the expiration of the payroll tax break of 2.1%, which go to Social Security. Now, here are the points that are interesting:

    1) The left (including Yahoo! News) loves to cherry pick what it means by "Republicans" when it wants to. In other words, we all know there are two groups of Republicans -- the conservatives/Tea Party group and the moderate Republicans (e.g., John McCain). Now, when the Tea Party proposes something, it is always portrayed as "even the Republicans are disgusted and want to disown these inbred morons." It's not reported as "the Republicans propose spending cuts," it's reported as "the Tea Party fringe propose spending cuts, which even the Republicans say will not work." So "Republicans" clearly mean "moderates in the Republican party." But then you turn around and the same moderate Republicans say they want a tax increase and suddenly Yahoo! News is like "OMG, the Republicans who opposed tax increases want them now!!!" They do? Go through the story. What Republicans are cited that actually say "we want this to expire"? The only ones are Jeb Hensarling from Texas and David Camp from Michigan. That's "many of the same Republicans" who fought for the Bush era tax cuts? TWO GUYS, neither of whom you've ever heard of and neither of whom are Tea Party representatives? LOL. Try harder.

    2) Let's say Yahoo! News is right and the Republicans are suddenly for tax hikes. That's GOOD, right? After all, isn't it the LEFT who always says that we should compromise? When Republicans compromise by betraying their principles, the left doesn't applaud them, apparently. And by the way, when has the left ever compromised? Where's the news story about the Democrats suddenly being for spending cuts? Uh ...yeah. But Democrats constantly portray themselves as "the open-minded people who try to work with everyone." LOL again.

    3) Ignored in this story is the breaking news that Social Security Disability is on the verge of insolvency. Big surprise, I know, the Republicans have been saying that for years. So these moderate Republicans are merely following the Democrat plan to RAISE REVENUES. Personally, I think they should keep the tax rates and let Social Security Disability die. But then the same Democrats will blame us for that, too. See how it works? The only acceptable way to do things is to raise taxes ONLY ON THE RICH. You raise them on anyone else and suddenly you're a monster -- heaven forbid people pay for their OWN benefits. You see that in all the union battles of the left, where if you ask someone to pay 5% of their pension, it's like the world is about to end and riots break out and people start ripping off their clothes. All liberals.

So thanks for posting this story to demonstrate the hypocrisy OF THE LEFT.

Why would the GOP fight so hard about letting the Bush/Obama tax cut for business expire and yell so loud about any tax increases just being wealth distribution. Then turn around and want to raise taxes on people that can least afford it.

I know it's Sunday and not many people online, but I would be interested in some of our local right leaning posters explain the difference.

    ahoy Wooyarn me friend,

    imma confused, matey.

i read o're and o'er and o'er here on our forums that somethin' like 50% 'o americans pay no taxes.

'tis like a chant, or a mantra 'o some sort, aye?

yer thread seems to indicate that this claim be fiction...i mean, do payroll taxes actually count as taxes? or are payroll taxes the kind 'o tax that really isn't a tax?

    what say ye?

That figure refers to federal taxes. Close to 50% of Americans pay no federal taxes (it's a little under 50%).

Not real sure what to tell you. I guess it depends on if you're a Rep. or Dem.

I saw this story and wondered if the Reps saw this the same way they saw the Bush era cuts. The Reps were saying to let the Bush era cut expire was a tax increase. So is the payroll tax cut expiration a tax increase?

Looks like wooyarn is going to continue this farce where he just ignores posts and says "I don't understand why Republicans are for tax increases" and acts befuddled. Of course, I'll continue to point out that I answered his question in post #3. I'm literally going to repeat that point after every one of his posts where he pretends nobody has answered his question.

Do a search on some of the threads from the past about the tax cuts.
