Checking in! Not even a slight breeze here yet, but just thought I'd say hi.
A friend of mine posted a pic on his FB page last night of the bread aisle at Stop & Shop - the shelves were empty. What is it with people and bread? "OMG, a big storm's coming, I'd better go buy 5 loaves of bread!!". Are people planning on eating tons of sandwiches? Me, I stocked up on booze.![]()
Thanks for checking in! The booze is most essential but down here, besides the booze, our hurricane check list is:
BOOZE!
BREAD!
potted meat
vienna sausage
chips
candy
10 gallons of water
batteries
flashlights
hurricane lamps
lamp oil
propane
fill gas tanks on all cars
extra gas cans
first aid supplies
ice chests filled with ice
ibuprofen (when the barometric pressure drops, my right knee kills me and I get a massive sinus headache...it's the only thing I remember about Hurricane Betsy...I was four years old at the time)
Once the storm passes (assuming I have no power), I pull out the grill, open my freezer and cook everything in there and invite the neighbors over for booze and food!![]()

yesterday I took all the sails off my boat, closed the seacocks and got her ready to ride out the storm on her mooring.
I brought the alcohol stove from the boat home, so I'll have a little stove when the power goes out.
I got candles, canned goods, and I've been trying to use as much out of the freezer and fridge as possible the last week so when the power goes out I won't lose much.
The forecast for tomorrow is winds 40 to 60 mph, I'm on the North Shore, so we'll get blown around a little but I don't think we'll get it as bad as they will further south.
"I think -- tide turning -- see, as I remember --I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of -- it's easy to see a tide turn -- did I say those words?"
-- George W. Bush, asked if the tide is turning in Iraq
Checking in ... a bit windy in Raleigh. I was hoping for a bigger thrill ... especially, after the wanker earthquake last week.
Still, tragic a man died by a falling tree limb.![]()

Yeah, don't i know it - earthquake the other day and now a storm. If its of any comfort, Pete is also flying next week as well i think, and he usually is the target of people trying to blow him up half the time, so i'm relatively safe in comparison.![]()
