As your quoted paragraph states, the Palestinians include "descendants of local inhabititants," and they are not new to the area as evidenced by their ancient mosques, villages, and olive orchards, while a lot of the Jewish settlers are relatively recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union who live in newly constructed housing.
