The American people sent the Republican Congress a clear message last week, but apparently the survivors in Washington didn't hear it or didn't care. By an overwhelming margin, they re-elected Boehner and Blunt as their party leaders. Change must not be on their agenda.WASHINGTON - Cast into the minority by an angry electorate, House Republicans chose Rep. John Boehner (news, bio, voting record) of Ohio on Friday to lead a return to power as quickly as possible. "We're going to earn our way back into the majority," he vowed.
To do that, he said, "we need to fight for a smaller, less costly and more accountable federal government."
Boehner defeated Rep. Mike Pence (news, bio, voting record) of Indiana for minority leader on a secret ballot vote of 168-27, a margin that demonstrated fellow lawmakers do not hold him responsible for the election losses the party suffered on Nov. 7. The Ohio Republican has been serving as majority leader, the second-in-command in the leadership, since February.
Another leadership veteran, Roy Blunt of Missouri, won a new term as party whip, defeating Arizona Rep. John Shadegg (news, bio, voting record) on a vote of 137-57. "You know, it's not our job to defend business as usual, not our job to try to define the federal government in the biggest possible way," Blunt said.

IMHO Republicans lost the elections based in large part on their turning away from Republican ideals. I as a Republican have been disappointed at the inability of the government to control spending (among other things).
That combined with an unpopular war doomed the Republican party and will continue to doom it until the true Conservative Republican principles are reembraced.
sam i agree we might have different versions of whats ideal for the party but we agree that he was not the message !!!
I guess this just shows we will lose in 08 with thie mentallity behind the wheels still.
although in the senate trent Lott is a good change for the right message. he gets things done.
Pence was a damn good conservative man really sucks the big one...
I know some how hannity, rush etc will spin this as a good thing when its dog crap

I asked the democrats this in a similar thread.
Because the election ended poorly, did you really expect them to do differently? It was not the leadership of congress which soured the milk. it was the farmer (Bush) who dictated milking the cows at the wrong time of day. the Republicans, as is with the democrats, will do things basically as they did before.
That is why I have consistantgly said that the parties are like two rival home town teams (you name the sport) both doing their own thing, but very similar, and declaring that THEY are the best.

Hey SamInTheBurgh.
In your picture, it says "they killed innocent civilans in cold blood." Are you referring to the roughtly 3000 babies each year that are killed by partial birth abortion? You know, where they halfway extract a live baby and stick a vacuum tube in the back of its head and suck out the brains and then throw the remians in the trash?
What kind of political party is in favor of such an act of evil inhumanity?
Democrats. Perhaps that is why democrat is almost identical to demonrat. Just rotate the c 90 degrees clockwise and your there...

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. -- Rummy
