ahoy me buckaroos!
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/29/us...agewanted=2&hpShort of support from their conservative members, House Republican leaders on Thursday abruptly put off a vote on their proposal to raise the debt ceiling and cut government spending, throwing last-ditch efforts to avert a government default next week into disarray.
Just minutes from a roll call vote on the plan pushed by Speaker John A. Boehner, Republicans stunned the House by interrupting the debate and turning to routine matters while Mr. Boehner and his lieutenants tried to pressure reluctant conservatives into backing their plan.
The delay caught Senate Democrats off guard. Harry Reid, the majority leader, had said earlier Thursday that once the House approved its plan, he intended to immediately set it aside and move ahead with his proposal for deeper spending cuts and a longer extension in the debt limit, which would ultimately be thrown back to the House.
so...
after them GOP folk approve congressman Boehner's plan (assumin' they do), Senator Reid shall beat to quarters and counterpropose even greater spendin' cuts, probably coupled with either closin' 'o tax loopholes or increased taxes on the wealthy.
what say ye mateys?
does the GOP scuttle a democratic proposal that makes even mightier spendin' cuts than Mr. Boehner's plan, on the grounds that 'tis unfair to the most prosperous americans?

That's a clever way to try and get the debt limit pushed past the next election.
I doubt it will work though, the GOP will be lucky if they can pass any bill even once in the house.
Liberals fail to recognize that modern conservatives are direct evidence of the failure of the public education system.
They already passed a bill in the House that raised the debt limit.
Boehner is a fool. He's going to piss off his entire caucus with this watered down bill that does nothing and Reid and company have already said they will not pass cleanly. Instead, Reid will water it down twice as much, and send it back Monday morning, forcing the House to either swallow a useless bill or the blame for whatever goes down.
They should have just sent the Senate a clean limit raise for one month, and force them to defend their waste every month until election day.
But, this is what you get when party leadership is based on good old boy croneyism and senority.

Problem with these so-called proposals is that most contain no real savings or reductions.
They were 3 votes from getting the Budget Amendment.....they should have tried it again, not back away like fucking 1st graders and cry.
I so hope more conservatives get elected in 2012 and these retarded Rhino's are laid to rest.![]()
Fuck Gold...invest in guns, ammo, survival guide...you and your family will need them.
Mark Levin for President !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The republicans need to get their heads straight and figure out what the goal is. Is it spending cuts, or avoiding tax increases? Cut spending now, and if the price is some tax increases, so be it, as long as the spending cuts are real and much greater than the spending cuts. Then win the Presidency and the senate in 2012, and repeal the tax increases.
Like I said in another thread, give them the closing of corp loopholes. If that is what America thinks it wants, so be it. I just don't want to hear any bitching at the cash register(s).
Why, MHP, why do democrats seem to have this vision of a corporate shareholders meeting where the director gets up and says "as you all know, we are now subject to new taxes, and we cannot possibly pass those on to the consumer, so you all should make peace with a smaller return on your investments"? I mean, it's so f'n stupid, they think they are going to tax/punish Mr. Corporate jet and they end up taxing their meager living selves.....champions of "the people", y'know......fighting "the system", sticking it to "the man". Too bad they're "the man".![]()

When they call you racist, they mean they lack the intelligence, intellect, and composure to examine facts and engage in actual debate on the topic.
ahoy Chassisman,
though this be off - topic, i can try to answer yer question me bucko, though i cannot speak fer democrats up on the hill.
if ye close corporate loopholes, then the tax that them mighty corporations pay might come closer to 20% or maybe even 25%, as opposed to (in some cases) zero percent. this would raise revenues, and as long as the GOP remain vigilant, these monies can be used to pay down our nettlesome debt.
now, i understand yer objections, fer ye feel that any rise in corporate taxes will be offset by them corporations increasin' the cost 'o thar goods, aye?
as a business owner, i'd have to disagree with this assertion.
i can only really charge what the market will bear, Chassisman. if ye raise prices in direct proportion to the rise in them corporate taxes, ye will not be able to pass on the cost to them consumers....they'll just bypass yer product, and the only exception i can think of to this reality be gasoline and air travel...and even thats not immune to this dynamic. if gasoline prices rise past a certain point, folks are goin' to start lookin' fer alternatives too.
finally, if yer assertion were true, that would mean a cut in corporate taxes always results in lower prices fer the consumers (it be a two way street, aye?), but we know this be not true.
also, if thar be conservatives in congress that be advocatin' closin' tax loopholes, they be rather silent....so whilst ye may agree that its an acceptable idear, unfortunately yer not a senator or a house member.

mead hall
so when you loose money do to a raise in taxes you just keep losing money or do raise your prices?
accoridng to you and libs like you you just keep loosing money, sorry but i work to make money not loose it.
as for your theory they cant raise prices because the markert wont let them that is true, that is when they either go overseas and we loose the jobs and the taxes or they shut down compleatly again loosing jobs and taxes.
yes raising taxes is such a great idea.
When every corp in America passes the new taxes on (and they will) the market changes. when you can't go somewhere else and get it cheaper, everyone will bear the new tax included prices. Thats why dems have always had a slobbering love affair with "value added tax" it's of value to fuel their spending, but of no value to the consumer.

ahoy thar Sailorman126, well met!
do i loose monies?
i guess i do loose some 'o it...at least thats how i'd steer me vessel. the prices fer the services at me two businesses be carefully researched, and at the moment, i be chargin' the highest price the market can reasonably bear.
