Primatene Mist With Chlorofluorocarbons No Longer Available After Dec. 31, 2011
The Obama administration continues their war against the American people by pulling the only OTC asthma inhaler off the shelves. The only over-the-counter asthma inhaler sold in the United States will no longer be available next year as part of an international agreement to stop the use of substances that damage the environment.
Primatene Mist (epinephrine) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the temporary relief of occasional symptoms of mild asthma. FDA urges those who use Primatene Mist to see a health care professional soon to switch to another asthma medicine.
Primatene Mist inhalers are being discontinued because they use chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as a propellant (spray) to move the medicine out of the inhaler so patients can breathe the medicine into their lungs.
Thousands of people use Primatine to instantly stop acute asthma attacks. And now to get an inhaler for asthma they will have to pay a doctor and buy a prescription inhaler that costs significantly more than Primatine.
What a bunch of fucking assholes. This decision could cause many Americans to die from asthma attacks.

Your OP is kind of a stretch, isn't it?
You think government is too involved in daily life, and yet you think President Obama should micromanage the availability of an over-the-counter drug?
Obviously, it will take an extra step for people with asthma to get this medication. That's a good thing! It is a drug that can be over used and dangerous if over used.
Now, ONLY people who really need it will get it, with a prescription from a licenced physician.
"OTC ASTHMA INHALERS ARE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE, BUT OFTEN MISUSED CHICAGO-- Good news about over-the-counter (OTC) epinephrine inhalers for asthma: Occasional use appears to be safe and effective in patients with mild, intermittent disease--provided they follow the instructions on the label.
The bad news: "About 20% of the asthma patients who are using these inhalers probably should not be," said Roy D. Altman, MD, in an interview with RESPIRATORY REVIEWS. These patients have mild-to-moderate persistent asthma and need a physician's supervision, explained Dr. Altman, a Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami."

Wether you agreed with this new regulation, what does that have to do with the POTUS?

I do not believe that this POTUS (in fact, any POTUS in the past) has studied a specific drug and has single handedly made a decision to remove a specific drug from over the counter distribution.
Obviously, the pharmaceutical who benefits from the open sale of that drug is going to do some propaganda attacks where ever they can! And, obviously, some people will gobble the "market side" of this issue and blame whomever they dislike most!
Who mentionned "koolaid drinkers?"
I am returning the compliment: "Where do you come up with some of these hairball ideas?"

Well....the FDA is part of HHS which is an Executive branch agency so the claim of the Obama administration making this decision is pretty much spot on. I doubt that Obama himself made this decision but such a claim was never really made by the OP.
As far as the company that makes Primatine having issues with the decision....I suppose that they would. The stuff works and it's safe. It's also been on the market for many years so I'd say that they have a pretty legitimate gripe.
Let's take this one step farther. You may have noticed that some people are complaining that the cost of health care is getting out of hand. They are complaining that average people have to spend so much of their money on health care that they have a hard time affording things like food and housing. It occurs to me that this particular decision is an excellent example of just exactly why health care has become so expensive. See, the 'free market' was doing a fine job of keeping the cost of this particular medicine down so that it was accessible to everyone but this government decision will make that same drug more expensive and thus less accessible to ordinary people.

Exept that, the ruling on this issue wasn't made under OBAMA's administration!
The whole issue involving products containing epinephrine began as far back as 2005, and the FINAL RULING took place in November 2008 (under whose administration?), with the final date to remove all products under that clause by December 31, 2011.

RIN 0910-AF92
Use of Ozone-Depleting Substances; Removal of Essential-Use
Designation (Epinephrine)
AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.
ACTION: Final rule.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), after consultation
with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is amending FDA's
regulation on the use of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) in self-
pressurized containers to remove the essential-use designation for
epinephrine used in oral pressurized metered-dose inhalers (MDIs). The
Clean Air Act requires FDA, in consultation with the EPA, to determine
whether an FDA-regulated product that releases an ODS is an essential
use of the ODS. FDA has concluded that there are no substantial
technical barriers to formulating epinephrine as a product that does
not release ODSs, and therefore epinephrine would no longer be an
essential use of ODSs as of December 31, 2011. Epinephrine MDIs
containing an ODS cannot be marketed after this date.
DATES: This rule is effective December 31, 2011.
I tend to believe that YOU at least, are too smart to go for the hate BS spewed by some of your friends.
