The percentage of American adults who lack health insurance coverage has not only increased during the presidency of Barack Obama, but it has continued to increase since Obama signed his signature piece of legislation last year mandating that by 2014 every American carry health insurance, according to a Gallup survey released today.
In 2008, when George W. Bush was president, according to Gallup, 14.9 percent of adult residents of the United States lacked health insurance coverage. That increased to 16.2 percent in 2009, the year that Obama was inaugurated, and to 16.4 percent in 2010, the year that Obama signed his law requiring that all Americans have health insurance.
In the first half of this year, according to data released by Gallup today, the percentage of adults in the United States lacking health insurance ticked up to 16.8 percent.
That conclusion is based on Gallup's interviews with 177,237 American adults from January through June of this year. The interviews were part of the ongoing Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey.
Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on March 23, 2010. It mandates that all Americans must purchase government-approved health insurance plans by 2014. Under the legislation, families earning less than 400 percent of the poverty level will receive a federal subsidy to buy insurance.
The constitutionality of the mandate is being challenged in federal court by more than half of the states.

Given the changed post-election legislative landscape I can only hope that the administration and the congressional houses can find a way to work together, finding the right compromises to do the people's business, while keeping the people's best interests at heart, and may civility return to the public discourse. We, as a nation, certainly need all of these things.
Yeah, well that's a lost cause now for sure.
Um....that's what was supposed to happen. Once nobody has private insurance any more we can all be put on the government program.
It's also very, very important to continue to drive the cost of private insurance up so that when we all go on the dole the cost per unit looks better.

The rise in the number of uninsured is a trend that has been going on for decades.
But when Obamacare kicks in, it will be reversed.
It's happened already in Massachusetts, with RomneyCare, almost the same exact thing as ObamaCare, we have less than 2% uninsured.

Goober, you put such effort into keeping the faith.........
It'll be repealed before it "kicks in", hide and watch.![]()

When they call you racist, they mean they lack the intelligence, intellect, and composure to examine facts and engage in actual debate on the topic.

Really? Funny it's been years now and costs in Massachusetts are rising at least as fast as anywhere else in the nation, that's an astounding means of cost control at work. It's been over 4 years, costs haven't gone down, quality of care hasn't improved. Intelligent people must be addressing some other problem.
Obamacare was an attempt to use Dole's old plan when he should have just fought for a single payer or universal system.
So now we are stuck trying to patch a system that is fundamentally broken.
The nature of Obamacare is that it should help transition towards a system like Germany has which would result in better results for less money than our system.
