it was because of the ethnic cleansing of Chinese within Vietnam
this is one reason, most of them (Chinese) back to China from Vietnam in 1978,and live in Guang Xi province

I don't know anyone over here who says that China lost the Korean war, but they certainly didn't win it either, because the reason why they invaded south of the Yalu was confined to their imagination. They claimed that it was a war for the defense of China, which simply is not true. The UN mission was not in any way to harm China. The UN (really, US mission) was to stop the North Korean attempt to annex territory south of the 38th parallel, and that was accomplished, so technically we did win that war because our objective was accomplished.

However, since Mao painted US foreign policy to the Chinese people as imperialist, the propaganda was accepted by the Chinese people that the US was going to attack them and thus translated it into their interpretation of a victory. It doesn't change anything really, except prove the desperate need for some in China today to provide examples of chauvinism.

I don't accept the idea that the 1979 invasion of Vietnam by the PRC was for the US sake either, because Jimmy Carter made another weak attempt at trying to persuade a totalitarian regime not to do something through being nice.
