Yeah, I don't know much about the Yuan Dynasty. They tried to invade Japan, but due to the rush to invade them, the ships build were very shoddy and then there were the typhoons which sunk most of the fleet. The Japanese were also fortified and prepared to offer a lot of resistance with their samurai.

In any case, my impression of Empress Dowager is that she was incompetent. She was too slow to reform China, and I believe one of China's most prominent ministers who wanted reform was killed during her reign.
