the first Tiananmen Square event was happend in 1976.in that year, the "culture revolution' hadn't ended.China was still under Mao and the "the Gang of Four"'s control.the Chinese Prime minister Zhou En'laiwas dead in that year,he was a good man.he didn't like "culture revolution" and tried to end it.and since 1966 China began "culture Revolution",most Chinese tired of intestine strife.they went to Tiananmen square to memory Prime minister.the "gang of four" told Mao the Chinese people were counterrevolution, they went to Tiananmen square to overthrow Mao's government.Mao and "the Gang of Four" suppressed it.

One of the most amazing things about Zhou Enlai is that he was never purged from the government unlike an enormous amount of the CCP (Deng Xiaoping, Liu Shaoqi, Peng Dehuai, Lin Biao and the Gang of four). I believe Zhou Enlai was instrumental in bringing Deng Xiaoping into power and reviving him from exile in Sichuan after Deng's first dismissal after the Cultural Revolution.

Did you know that Mao did not even attend his funeral? I believe that Zhou's disagreement with Mao on the Cultural Revolution probably caused that.

Zhou smoked a lot, I think. Which is what led to him dying from lung cancer.

many Chinese don't like Mao.but no one hate Zhou, because Zhou was really a very good man,he was different from Mao.
Zhou met Mao in Guang Zhou province,1926.in that period,CCP wasn't KMT's enemy on subject of politics.Zhou met Deng Xiaoping in Paris,Frence,1920.both of them were study in Frence in that year, and both of them joined the international communist organization in Paris.
Zhou wasn't purged, but since 1970,he got much attacks from "the Gang of four".Mao believed Zhou, because they were comerade since their first meet:they were fought with KMT in the First, the Second civial war.fought with Japanese in Anti-Japanese war.in the long period,Zhou had never leave Mao,in Mao's mind,Zhou is deserve to believe.in "Culture revolution",Zhou always didn't like this political movement.but why didn't Zhou stop it.this is easy to understand,in that Period,Mao was the God in Chinese' heart.if Zhou object "culture revolution" in public,Mao wouldn't believe him anymore.except Zhou, most Mao's comerade were under arrest.if Zhou under arrest too, then no one can stop "the Gang of Four" from doing bad things.as Deng Xiaoping said after ended "culture revolution":Zhou did some thing he doesn't like do in 'culture revolution',.if z\Zhoug down with the Red Guards ,then no one can save them.this is strange relation

Mao didn't attend Zhou's funeral, because Mao's healthy was very bad too.Mao was so old, weak,he got illness too,he can't walk by himself,so he had to lied on bed.he can't speak loundly, just his secretary knows what he say.his eyes nearly blind.Jan,8,his secretary Zhang Yufeng asked Mao:do you want to attend Prime Minister Zhou's funeral?Mao pated his leg and answerd:I can't walk now.

Zhou didn't like smoke, his illness is bladder cancer and intestine cancer. in 1930s,on the way Long March,he got dysentery illness, and nearly die.

That's interesting. I read a book and the author said that Mao chose not to go. Or at least that was his theory.
