Well, I think a lot of people get off the hook many times before they actually hit the high road to prison. Growing up, I had a friend who just always seemed to get lucky whenever he stood in front of the judge. He was a pretty violent guy too. Then, I've seen other people get thrown in the can just for the silliest of reasons. I suppose it depends on which judge you are seeing.
But I think the whole point of the story was that this particular governer was called upon to change his stance on whether or not an illegal aliens should be handed over to federal authorities after breaking the law, which in my opinion, they darned well should be. I can't understand why a law-breaking illegal alien should be protected from deportation. |

This is ridiculous. Not because he's an illegal, but because ANYBODY can get off this many times.
It really has nothing to do with his status. I read in the paper all the time about people who have had x number of DUI's and the judges keep letting them off until they go and kill some one. It's a real real real problem, but it doesn't really have anything to do with immigration, imho.
