Americans would take those jobs, if they paid better, but $8/hr to work under the hot sun all day, nah, don't think so....
"I think -- tide turning -- see, as I remember --I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of -- it's easy to see a tide turn -- did I say those words?"

That's clearly the case but therefore no reason to begrudge those willing to do them (not saying you are but for those who might be in the public). Even with very good pay, many still wouldn't work in the sun close to the ground. There is an old saying the Irish immigrants used to have for kids who didn't want to do any hard labour: 'narrowbacks.'

    1. Narrowback

A child of Irish immigrants who is considered too soft to do hard physical labor.

"You narrowbacks would never make it in the old country..You don't know what hard work is."
    Urban Dictionary: narrowback

I sure as hell don't think there is anything wrong with wanting a better paid job without working hard in the sun...that's what I certainly chose to do for a permanent career. That was the smart play IMO. But before I could get to that stage, it's precisely what I did do to help me get there, e.g., plumbing including digging pipe trenches in the summer heat, working on family farms back in Ireland including picking, etc, or doing the opposite of baking in the sun by freezing my extremities off in the winter loading and unloading trucks for 12 odd hours with the Teamsters, etc. If I had to do it again to keep money in my pocket, I'd do it without question.

But, these immigrants--like so many others--would rather do a hard day's work for a pocket of money than sit on their arse whinging about not having work when there is work available or, worse, collecting money.

They also are the types willing to relocate nations--never mind regions--to do it, and in their cases, go through an arduous underworld avenue to do it. Plenty of Americans aren't even willing to relocate for work inside the US or even within their own region never mind outside the US even when they live in economically distressed areas that aren't likely to come back. For example, I liked living in the mountain areas of PA just like Ireland. There was only one problem--you can't eat scenery. If need be, I'd move again just like before to where I can get good or better work.

These particular workers are necessary, willing, and able to do the agricultural work. American demand for that work is negligible. IMO therefore, they've forfeited a right to complain about them doing it. Bashing and begrudging those willing to do what others will not and who produce a valuable service to those who aren't willing to do it is an injustice, never mind counterproductive. They'd be here legally if not for the conditions I explained and they should be legalised ASAP with visas tailored to allow them to do it.

As for them being here illegally now, it's an unjust reason IMO as explained with the gamesmanship as to why we don't have the needed Bracero visas anymore for agricultural workers, so personally I don't care whether they are breaking it or not so long as they are picking and providing that needed service. Rather, Congress ought to give them agricultural visas instead of making them pawns in a game that's counterproductive to what it supposed to be their proper mission...doing what's right for their country rather than what works for their political games. Heck, those Braceros actually do their jobs properly as opposed to many politicians who get the easier life out of the sun with higher pay and softer hands.

It doesn't. It has to do with:

    Article 4, Section 2
The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.
    Texas State Constitution
    Article 1, Section 3
Sec. 3. EQUAL RIGHTS. All free men, when they form a social compact, have equal rights, and no man, or set of men, is entitled to exclusive separate public emoluments, or privileges, but in consideration of public services.

    ahoy O'Sullivan Bere,

that was a mighty article ye linked 'bout the goings on in Georgia.

i think it highlights the crucial link in the economic chain that illegal immigrants play...and since not a single swabby here on USPO had a response to that article, it be fair to say that thar be consensus that our mighty nation needs its illegal immigrants to be granted some kinda work visa or immunity or somethin'.

the fate 'o our nation be at stake, fer our peoples need affordable foods to put in our gullet!

Then please stay on topic. This thread is about a bill introduced in Texas concerning illegals and jobs.
