Default a sound solution from Texas, aye!

    ahoy mateys,

thar be a sensible wind blowin' in from Texas on the employment 'o illegal immigrants.

thar new law would take mighty steps from corporations and businesses who hire them who be in our land without goin' through the proper channels, but would also spare folks (like meself) who hire these kinda folk fer personal use on a smaller scale.

what say ye, mates, 'bout the GOP proposal in Texas?

Amid a number of bills filed in Texas that address the issue of illegal immigration, one, proposed by Republican state Rep. Debbie Riddle, stands out.

As proposed, House Bill 2012 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another houseworker.

"When it comes to household employees or yard workers, it is extremely common for Texans to hire people who are likely undocumented workers," Pena said.

this bill would also spare politicians who rail against illegal immigration who might otherwise serve our mighty nation, but be sadly caught in "gotcha" moments when they themselves hire such folks as nannys and such.

What a cop out. If they're freaking illegal, they shouldn't be employable by ANYONE. I guess Pena needed an out for keeping slaves.

    ahoy thar Mrs. M!

'tis not about slavery, as far as i can tell, lass. them illegal immigrants be part 'o the wind that fills them Texan sails with the gold that propels thar mighty economy. this bill just acknowledges that.

In a interview with the Texas Tribune, Riddle's chief of staff, Jon English, explained that the exception was to avoid "stifling the economic engine" in Texas.

That's bullshit. It's about using illegals and paying them slave wages. Those wages aren't taxed and yet the anchor babies and their moms get benefits galore from tax dollars. Think how much money Texas could save if they didn't have to pay for those kids and their educations. No, this was just another backhanded attempt by one really stupid Democrat to try to make himself look good. He looks like a total ass to me.

    ahoy thar Michael H,

i see this bill as kinda a tax hike fer corporations, fer it would force corporations to hire american citizens...if they don't and hire them illegal workers, then the state will make'm walk the plank.

its kinda a tax cut fer middle and upper class homeowners, though, fer they can retain thar nannies and housekeepers and swabbys who tend to thar lawn...and makin' it all legal would then change the status 'o them workers to legal immigrants (in this specific context), so no laws would be broken.

Ah, a stupid Democrat hiding behind the Republican party then....I hope the Republicans in Texas are smart enough to vote his sorry ass out. Maybe then he'll join the party that supports his kind of bullshit.

    hmmmf.

    hail ye Mrs. M,

the Republican who introduced this bill be Debbie Riddle, a Texas State Representative, lass. she's not a democrat pretendin' to be a conservative, as far as i know.

A lifelong Republican, Debbie has served the Republican Party as the vice-chairman of the finance committee of the Harris County Republican Party and as chairman of the building committee for the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

Debbie is also past president of the Texas Tea Party of Republican Women
