I mostly came to this decision when I quit the best job I've ever had due to medical concerns and started driving a cab. Went from working fifty hours a week with a $10 an hour base pay plus over time to working sixty hours a week for what I assumed was required by law to work out to at least minimum wage with overtime. My average weekly pay for the six weeks I did that was $150. That $2.50 an hour with no overtime. This shouldn't be allowed.

Since starting in my new job (delivering pizza), I've failed to make minimum wage once (my car broke down but we were too busy for me to go home). My boss assigned an extra payout to my nightly cash out to cover it. This is the way business should be run.

i'll let ye have the last word, Porras, but yer perspective is not that of an owner. i be an adherent to the "measure twice and cut once" kinda thinkin'. maybe imma just old fashioned.

Well Skipper; Had your business been compatible and you let me staff you You would have had the pleasure of using pre trained persons (Temps or Perms) and if at the end of the day they proved unsatisfactory there would be no charge and you would have a replacement reporting for duty in the morning. While in my employ working for you you would have had few if any of the responsibilities that would ordinarily be faced as an employer.

If you were delighted with one of our people they could be transferred to your staff after a certain number of hours free of additional fees.

This business today is more dehumanized and more of a financial game by users and "millions" of workers involved on a world wide basis .

You're right, both times I've been in a position where additional expenses came out of my bottom line, there were no employees to speak of. But the other jobs I've had all had a set labor budget. We never went over this because we had to rehire after one person proved themselves to be incapable of doing their job.

Further, the fact that someone speaks with an accent doesn't make them a better choice for hiring. Many of the people I've worked with who had the best work ethic could never get to the point of having a management position.
During the journey we commonly forget its goal. Almost every profession is chosen as a means to an end but continued as an end in itself. Forgetting our objectives is the most frequent act of stupidity.
