I was recently personally attacked for just disagreeing with the logic that people advance cannot even HAVE AN OPINION on social policy, and I was called all sorts of names. I understand perfectly well why the townspeople were upset and that's their right. Though I'm far from homophobic or anti-gay, there are plenty that haven't accepted it yet for whatever reason and this man has moved into a small town and rocked the boat. I'm going through similar things in my city because of outsiders and I hate it! One should never come from the big city into a small community and try to change the people because they become very resentful and nothing but problems follow. If the man just wanted to run his business with no problems, he could've removed the rainbow flag but now he's cutting off his nose to spite his face. Some fights just ain't worth fighting and this man's family will definitely suffer because of a stupid flag!

I agree with you for the most part. You should never move to a community just to shake things up, unless there is something horrible that needs to be shaken up, which isn't the case here. However, he is just flying a flag, he didn't fly the flag to cause problems. In this case it was the townspeople that started the problems, not the man. Why should he not fly his flag? Especailly since he has stated that it has no political motivation behind it?

It's kind of like the rebel flag thing. Some here in the south still fly it out of hatred and some out of a sense of southern pride but many people object to it. A business hoping to cater to blacks and whites wouldn't display it because they know they lose customers, even if they had no bigotry in their hearts.
This man has to make a decision about whether he wants customers or if he wants to show the people that he doesn't care how they feel about him. How far is he willing to go? Will he let his family and business suffer because of it? Maybe he feels it's worth it to be dead right but I wouldn't.
