Default BCG's from generation to generation

If you have served or are serving in the US Military, just hearing the term "BCG" will make you smirk. To the uninitiated, I present:

“Birth Control Glasses” or the abbreviated “BCG’s” This model was the standard-issue eyeglasses from the 1960’s – 80’s. US military personnel too dumb or cheap to buy their own eyewear were issued these rather unpopular glasses back then. We called them "Birth Control Glasses" because they made you so ugly no woman would come near you. I think David Dray liked his though.

Now, here’s the current version of army-issue “BCG’s” (Birth Control Glasses). We have modernized our entire arsenal since the 80’s - dumped the M-60 tank, the “jammin’ jennie” M-16, The F-4 Phantom, The jeep… you’d think they would come up with glasses that didn’t make a guy look like a complete tool…

At least not in civvies. In my first Bn in 1993-1997, it was mandatory you wore those on ranges and such, plus, most 1st Sergeants thought civilian eyewear in uniform was eccentric, so even in garrison, you'd see a lot of guys wearing them things. No civilian substitutes allowed in the field or on ranges, and for a good portion of the Battalion, in garrison while in uniform. When we deployed, you had to have 2 pair, plus your gas mask inserts. We hated it, but followed the rules.

Army units allowed you to wear civvie glasses but at unit commander discretion, ie you have a pair that looks like you stole them from Flava Flav, forget it.

Silhouette makes glasses for NASA astronauts, they look very good, perhaps the pentagon should have a chat with them.

I think the pentagon purposely chooses awful-looking glasses to keep the souls of the troops pure wink wink

Wouldn't take all that long to perform lasik surgery on most of those with defective vision. The ophthalmologists are already on the payroll, trade them a couple of years of extended service for the specialty training.

negative...looks chemical or signals, something else, its not crossed rifles...he has no blue cord, if he is wearing his greens he must have gone "blue' and would have the cord as greens weren't issued until the last week of basic or ait, at least when I was in.

I'm going to have to scan in one of me boot camp photos of me in my BCG later. It was not very long until I decided to go with contacts.
