Default Antimilitary Bigotry in San Francisco

So what is the problem with JROTC? There isn't one. The problem is with the anti military bigotry of the school board majority and the "peace" activists who lobbied against the program on the grounds that San Francisco's schools should not be sullied by an association with the US armed forces.

"We don't want the military ruining our civilian institutions," said Sandra Schwartz of the American Friends Service Committee, a far-left pacifist organization that routinely condemns American foreign policy and opposes JROTC nationwide. "In a healthy democracy . . . you contain the military." Board member Dan Kelly, who voted with the majority, called JROTC "basically a branding program or a recruiting program for the military." In fact, it is nothing of the kind: The great majority of cadets do not end up serving in the military.

    The Boston Globe
San Franstalingrad once again takes the number one spot with the most despicable people in the country. The military ruins our civilian institutions? Only in a city populated with leftover 1960s Marxists could you find people that think the United State Military, the very institution that has protected our country and helped spread freedom and liberty throughout the world, is ruining the facets of our daily lives.

Only a left wing extremist bonehead like Ms. Schwartz couldn't have the intellectual capacity to realize that if it weren't for the United States Military she wouldn't be allowed to utter her very words.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic." - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton April 28th, 2003

It's San Fransisco, what do you expect?

Liberal Tolerance is a myth. They only tolerate and preach tolerance for those views they agree with. Anything they disagree with is a ripe target for censorship and suppression.

Such a shame ... After reading an article from the San Francisco Chronicle, I see two reasons why the program was cut:

    1) Because it is seen as a recruiting tool for the military

Opponents acknowledged the program is popular and even helps some students stay in school and out of trouble.

Yet they also said the program exists to lure students to sign up for the armed forces.

"It's basically a branding program, or a recruiting program for the military," Kelly said before the meeting.
    2) Because of the military stance on homosexuals.

Opponents said the armed forces should have no place in public schools, and the military's discriminatory stance on gays makes the presence of JROTC unacceptable.

Sam I know why you bring this kind of stuff up, but don't you think the fact that you have to bring it up for people to even know they exist in the first place tells you how much support they have? Moreover way to give them more exposure.

JROTC and ROTC have nothing to do with the US military's stance/president's order on gays in the military. You can be openly gay in either program and can suffer no repercussion for it.

Until you graduate and join a regular unit.

When you join a unit, IF you join a unit, you are no longer in ROTC...and JROTC is for high school levels only.

As I said, you can be openly, 100% tell all gay in either, and no one can do anything to you about it.

Their "gay" defense for their decision is a farce.

I understand that but for most the only reason they go into, especially the ROTC, is because they are thinking of a military career, or to help pay for college before they join instead of after. Either way once they are in they must either see the light or retreat back into the closet before joining a regular unit. So the you can be gay up to this point then you have to turn straight, defense seems a little disingenuous to me.

Liberal Tolerance is not a myth. You pick out the people that are intolerant and stereotype all liberals and intolerant. That is not being very tolerant if I do say so. Just because this guy thinks a certain way does not mean that all people that are liberal minded think alike. We are not the borg.

Seems disengenuous to me to use a defense that has nothing to do with JROTC and ROTC as a defense.

How many ways can it be said? No one can be discriminated against in these programs for being gay.

Therefore their BS defense of the decision is a complete farce and would not hold up in any court outside (Or perhaps even INSIDE) San Franciso.
