BARACK OBAMA CONSIDERING HILLARY CLINTON FOR SECRETARY OF STATE - New York Post
Oh boy...
Come to think of it, it's a genius move, if I were Obama I'd want Hillary out of the country as much as possible if I were POTUS.
Well, we knew there would be some quid pro quo for her support following the primary.
I hope Obama actually chooses someone with experience and knowledge, rather than using the Secretary of State position as a political payoff.(CNN) — Two sources close to the Obama transition team tell CNN that Senator Hillary Clinton’s name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for Secretary of State.
One source close to Hillary Clinton tells CNN that as of early yesterday, Senator Clinton had not been contacted by the transition team about a possible cabinet appointment. This same source tells CNN that Senator Clinton would not necessarily dismiss such an offer.
A spokesman for Hillary Clinton, Philippe Reines, tells CNN “Any speculation about cabinet or other administration appointments is really for President-Elect Obama's transition team to address.”
On Monday night, while walking into an awards ceremony in New York, Senator Clinton was asked if she would consider taking a post in the Obama administration. She replied, "I am happy being a Senator from New York, I love this state and this city. I am looking at the long list of things I have to catch up on and do. But I want to be a good partner and I want to do everything I can to make sure his agenda is going to be successful."

Why would Hillary take a job that has at the very least a time limitation?
If she stays a Senator she could keep her job for decades.
The best she could expect from being Sec. State is 8 years.

Thats a great point. And she has a lot more power in the Senate. SecState might give her a better shot at President though. Of course, its a major step down from Rice. We will have gone from one of the smartest foreign policy women to a former first lady.

Sec'y of State is one of the most important jobs. I agree; it should not be filled for a quid pro quo.
Although, if there is going to be such quid pro quo for such important appointments, I much prefer HRC to Kerry (there are rumblings about his being appointed - poor choice, very poor).

Wait..did you just say Rice was a good Sec State? What the heck has she done except smile and wave and preside over the status quo middle east "peace process", not to mention fumble the ball on the Russian invasion when she was supposedly a "Russian expert".
Clinton would be much better than Rice..by a lot.

I'm sure President Elect Barack Obama will be by shortly to consult with all of you geniuses as to who to put on staff and in his Cabinet!
