    Default Rick Perry and Education

Perry and the Profs | The Weekly Standard

Perry expends his considerable intelligence instead on using political power and, what amounts to the same thing, picking fights with his political adversaries. When Rollins came to Perry in 2007 with a radical and comprehensive proposal to overhaul higher education in the state, Rollins says the governor quickly understood the potential of the issue, not only politically but on its merits. The state operates more than 100 colleges, universities, technical schools, and two-year community colleges, organized into six separate systems. As in other states, public higher education in Texas is scattered, expensive, poorly monitored, and top heavy with administrators, even as it subjects students to often large annual tuition increases without a compensatory increase in educational quality.
This seems like a substantial article about Perry on Education and what he has done in Texas. Maybe an insight into what he would do as Pres (although I would hope he would say something like, leave it to the states). Ironically, his own college experience would seem to be proof of the failure of the system, with him doing very poorly, yet still getting a degree.

Well he supports teaching creationism alongside evolution. That right there says a lot about his attitude towards education.

Education doesn't seem to be Perry's strong point.

I doubt that you'll ever hear an endorsement from George or Laura Bush. RP is the Anti-Education Governor here in Texas, compared to Dubya's efforts to be the Education President.

Well maybe... but as I have heard it, the trouble between those two is deeper and covers a whole lot more ground than just education.

Something about Perry being a 'real' Texan and some such.

Creation cant be absolutely disproved, and evolution cant be absolutely proved, so as long as the community wants it to be taught, what is wrong with teaching it? Who has a right to say what is and isnt education? Are people who are religiously educated lesser citizens?

Thus removing it from the realm of science.

    Not actually true.

so as long as the community wants it to be taught, what is wrong with teaching it?
Because we shouldnt be teaching junk science to our kids and college students.

Who has a right to say what is and isnt education?
How am I supposed to answer that?

Are people who are religiously educated lesser citizens?
    I never said that.

    But you where thinking it.

Abiogenesis is forced on students specifically because it does not involve a Creator, yet it is just as unprovable as Genesis. It is the Atheist Creation story.

And endorsing a specific religion is unconstitutional.
