To me, it looks like a perfect example of "FN as an observer" (I know, I'm not being an essential addition to the discussion.)
I agree that your formulation is nearer to the mark. It's even more in line with his personality.
See that you're essential

The only work of Nietzsche I'd descrive as 'simple' is 'The Birth of Tragedy'. Generally speaking, offcourse not every sentence of Nietzsche is of celestial profoundness, but if you're reading Zarathustra, I'd venture to suggest that yes, you might be missing something if you think a part in there is of less depth. I'm no scholar, but in absentiam Michaelus Dementis, I'm more than willing to give you my interpretation of any part of Zarathustra. It's my favourite.

That's why I love Nietzsche. Zarathrustra is my least favourite. I find it too 'romantic' and melancholic.

Indeed, I'll also say that Birth of Tragedy is one of the most challenging ones!

And I will agree that if your first reading leads you to believe you understand what Nietzsche is saying, you really ought to re-read it. It is NEVER simple or straight forward. Reading Nietzsche is like peeling layers off an onion.
