This is not an endorsement of same sex marriage but I thought it was interesting and it might make a few liberal heads explode due to not being able to wrap their minds around the occurrence.

Seems like Democrats just aren't very good at getting the job done...especially when they are in the driver's seat. The approval of same-sex marriage represented a reversal of fortune for gay-rights advocates, who just two years ago suffered a humiliating defeat when a same-sex marriage bill was easily rejected by the Senate, which was then controlled by Democrats. This year, with the Senate controlled by Republicans, the odds against passage of same-sex marriage appeared long.

So what are you trying to say here? That Dems are against gay marriage and that Republicans support it? I'd love to see some GOP presidential candidates come out in support. I dare say if they did then they wouldn't be candidates for very long.
Meanwhile, I'd like to congratulate the NY Senate for the action.

It's great, but why are you expecting "heads to explode"?
The vast majority of us understand that not all Republicans are dicks.

I assume you're trying to say that it is ironic because you believe I'm doing the same thing? That's why I said "many". It is directed at the type of liberals that think conservatives or Republicans are interchangeable with racist or bigot or any other label that is used frequently. There is a very specific target of people that I was addressing.

exactly.
The different results between the vote of 2 years ago and today's is the dramatic change of opinion about gay and gay rights that has occurred over the last 2 + years.
Finally, the recognition of gays and their rights has reached critical mass among the general population. I believe that all the debate around DADT has been instrumental in shifting public opinion from a negative to a positive majority re: rights of gay people.
We, as a country, are finally growing up, at least on that issue.
I expect that we have turned the corner, and that recognition of gay mariages will multiply at a much faster pace in most states in the next 5 to 10 years.
