Cancer-stricken Ground Zero worker Edgar Galvis has finally received a compensation check -- for zero dollars.

The 51-year-old Queens man, who suffered sinus problems and then throat cancer after months of removing toxic debris from the World Financial Center, was relieved to get a check in the mail for his court settlement with Merrill Lynch, whose offices he had cleaned.

But he was stunned when he saw the amount: $0.00.

Looks like he owed money and was forced to lay with liens. The attorneys fees are pathetic though...

The Republicans are for tort reform, which would make it harder for the little guy to get justice, and the Democrats are for the lawyers, which means it's easier to get justice but harder to actually get paid, since the lawyers get most of the money.

Seems that there's an opening for someone to be for the little guy on an important issue. Tea party?

Thing that really pissed me off is that we can't afford to cover the cost for those that helped during 9/11....but we sure as hell had money to burn (millions) to place fucking bike stands all over the city.
