Pa. judge gets 28 years in 'kids for cash' case - US news - Crime & courts - msnbc.com
I bet this is going on in a lot of states and it is not just juvenile prisons it is adult prisons as well. THe sad part is that the tax payer still pays for them to be incarcerated but the profit all goes to the company that is incentivized to push for convictions for the smallest offense.Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 28 years in federal prison for taking $1 million in bribes from the builder of a pair of juvenile detention centers in a case that became known as "kids-for-cash."
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court tossed about 4,000 convictions issued by Ciavarella between 2003 and 2008, saying he violated the constitutional rights of the juveniles, including the right to legal counsel and the right to intelligently enter a plea.
Ciavarella, 61, was tried and convicted of racketeering charges earlier this year. His attorneys had asked for a "reasonable" sentence in court papers, saying, in effect, that he's already been punished enough.
Now imagine how that would pan out for SS or any other government service that does not operate for a profit. Just like insurance companies have incentive to deny legitimate claims because they put their profit above human life.
Yeah this judge got his but there are probably thousands more in other states doing the same thing. He should have been given life without parole and placed in gen pop with the murderers and rapists. He destroyed the futures of thousands of youths and he will end up spending 30 years in a country club.
There is no god. Get over it already.

No, this is what happens when someone breaks multiple laws in an effort for private illegal gain. This has nothing to do with healthcare or the effect of privatization of government services, and everything to do with general illegal behavior. That, with plenty of examples these days, happens all over the place both in the private sector and public sector.

I don’t trust either one of them too much.
What we are talking about here is basic human nature. People like to look good at their jobs. That translates into making the bottom line, whatever that is and however it is defined in any particular work setting, look good.
In a capitalistic setting it is money on h bottom line, in a government setting it is meeting the budget, not over or under.
I always find it strange that only reasonable people agree with me.
