Yea, it's just a total reflection of what the board users think of a thread. I'll usually rate a thread based on if it's some crappy partisan copy and paste rant or whether it actually offers some interesting food for thought. Of course, everyone is going to view the merit of the thread a bit differently. But, if enough people start rating threads, it would, in theory, help people recognize which threads are generally viewed as good quality by the membership and which threads the membership think are terrible.
[I]"Finding the occasional straw of truth awash in a great ocean of confusion and bamboozle requires intelligence, vigilance, dedication and courage. But if we don't practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us -- and we risk becoming a nation of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along." A question along a similar line is what does 'Joint Chiefs of Staff Member' mean. For example, Moonglow (chosen at random) is tagged as this. is this just a quantification as to the number of posts? Or the rating of the posts made?
Given the changed post-election legislative landscape I can only hope that the administration and the congressional houses can find a way to work together, finding the right compromises to do the people's business, while keeping the people's best interests at heart, and may civility return to the public discourse. We, as a nation, certainly need all of these things.
Yeah, well that's a lost cause now for sure.
"Minds must be firmer, hearts the keener,
courage the greater, as our might fails."
I am a liberal, a classical liberal. Classical liberalism is liberalism, but the current collectivists have captured that designation in the United States. In Europe they are glad enough to call themselves socialists. But no one in America wants to be called socialist and admit what they are.
