    Default stars...aye?

    ahoy oh officers 'o USPO!

i have me a question; what do the stars mean on threads?

doth it mean that the OP be well written and compellin', or doth it mean that the discussion in the thread be rich and engagin', even if the OP itself be sloppy and vapid?

That's a great question! I was wondering the same thing when I first got here! Couldn't understand why I was getting TWO stars, when everyone was attacking my posts!

Apparently, you get more stars as you post more. . .I think around 40 posts you get 2 stars, then 3 stars around 80 posts, etc. . .(I'm not sure of the exact numbers. . .but that's how it works!).

Then, you move to getting those little "trophees." I still don't know if/when you get Eagles. . .maybe those are REALLY for being an especially interesting and beloved poster!!!

    ahoy Sadanie,

the icons near yer avatar refer to yer postcount, i believe. what imma confused about be the "rating" system fer each thread, the stars that we can attach to each thread that be scribed.

be the stars related to the content 'o the thread, or the OP itself?

what if the OP be completely moronic, but the discussion that ensues be a wonderful thing? how are threads supposed to be rated, aye?

MHP look at the top right hand corner of any thread. There will be a tab that says 'Rate Thread'. Click on that tab and you have choices of rating the thread.

See your thread is now rated 'Excellent'.....

    aye Sunshine me friend,

that part i figured out, but what imma unclear on be what precisely is bein' rated.

be it the OP and the quality and thought that the author put into his post...or be it the quality 'o the discussion that the OP might have spurred?

i'll give ye an example, okies?

lets say me good and christian brother, Dr.Tripps, weighs in with his weekly gay bashin' thread that he starts. now, on the surface 'o it, i find the thread kinda borin' and rather pointless...'tis the same boilerplate assertions that i've read before o'er the years, but fer some reason, this particular thread ends up spurrin' a rich and compelllin' discussion.

how would a thread like this be rated?

    aye?

Oh! My bad! I just remember my confusion when I first got here.
Yes, there is that other star system!
and yes, clarification on the rating system would help!
    Thanks!

It is simply an average of all the ratings made by posters. It has no real bearing on whether a thread is well written, compelling, or if the thread is full of rich and engaging discussion. Posters are free to rate a thread however they choose. For example; I just rated this thread as 'terrible' (for example's sake!). Before it had a 5 star rating, and my 1 star rating brought the average down to 3 stars.

I am a liberal, a classical liberal. Classical liberalism is liberalism, but the current collectivists have captured that designation in the United States. In Europe they are glad enough to call themselves socialists. But no one in America wants to be called socialist and admit what they are.
