Default Social Security Reform and Debt Reduction Ideas

I think a forum made for these two current topics might be useful.

There is already an economic issues forum.
There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. -- Rummy

Meh there are already sub forums within the economic forum that are totally unused (not a single post since creation) but given the current climate a debt reduction/debt limit or issues forum might not be totally out of the realm of possibility...doesn't seem like there are too many other takers/participants though Mahayana. If there are more calls for it we'll consider it but for now its not really warranted.

I think Debt Reduction/Debt Limit really belongs under Current Events- more so than Healthcare or Immigration.

I'm not sure where Social Security discussions belong, but it's almost it's own branch of government so it should be somewhere on the forums.

Well the forum owner is a Social Security administrator so i'm pretty sure it was in his line of thinking when he set up the forum and the way its been structured...

Anyhow its kind of a bit chaotic and hectic atm, so remind me in a month or so and i'll look into it when we have a bit more time and all the staff are around.

Maybe it should be called "Debt/Deficit, Entitlement Reform, Tax Reform." I don't think that these will go away after August 2, as the 2012 budget negotiations are yet to come.

For now folks, please don't dump every debt limit issue into the breaking news forum. We have an economic issues forum and until we decide whether to add in a new forum or not, please make use of it.

It's been three weeks since I made my suggestion. The debt limit debate is over for now but I still think there should be a place for these Super-Committee topics to be discussed. This is real threatening stuff, sure to be dominating current events again later this year, into the next elections and beyond.

That was kind of half the concern from the start - i.e. what happens once the debt ceiling is raised...

However, like with the Healthcare issue, we still have the forum once the bill passed (mainly to know what was in it, haha), so this may work....

I do believe that Healthcare will be back at some point. Too many people hate the ACA, too many have committed to end it, the Constitutionality issue remains- no ruling by the 11th Circuit until late this summer, and it's bound to be revived in the 2012 campaigns.

Likewise, Immigration policy will likely become an issue again. It's just that neither party has a well-articulated plan at present.

So I don't mind them staying in Current Events, even if they're not making headlines right now.
