Default Is it me or is this forum getting overrun by radcial right-wing fanatics?

I am to the point that posting here is a waste of time. When I first got here the crowd was fairly diverse and I learned a lot. Now it would seem that the population is now slanted heavily towards the irrational right-wing fringe nutjobs and it is really killing the quality of debate. I find myself devolving into bickering and I hate that I keep falling into it but the level of irrational positions that people take is reaching astounding heights.

I started here with a chip on my shoulder and then I really began to appreciate this forum as a great resource for learning. I grew from my experience. These days is it seems more like a war brewing on the forum and we are getting flooded with right-wing rejects who refuse to accept facts that decisively disprove their claims and rather than question there own position or look for another one they just hammer home the same FOX news talking points over and over again.

I do not think anything can be done about it but if things continue, my time here will probably come to a close.

The real truth is we all lose. We are already in checkmate. Our media is nothing more than a propaganda machine feeding the fear fire and while we devolve into finger pointing and bickering, the puppet masters are in the background sticking it all of our asses. Eventually this will hit fever pitch and the 2012 election could very well usher in unprecedented civil unrest depending on the outcome. If either party gains filibuster proof majorities there will be serious blowback. We are literally on the brink of completely unraveling.

Best of luck to you all. I hope keep posting here but if present trends continue, I will have to remove myself permanently.

Well, I don't mind the Right wing posters, actually I think it is fun and informative to debate with people who have different point of view. But I will say that it seems that a few very avid posters are obviously not the "run of the mill" Republican, and are just, as you said, fanatics, with little ability to debate, but a great ability to insult and attack anything that is even remotely related to President Obama.

During the Bush years, we tended to get a lot of left-wing fanatics. They were angry at Bush, then they were angry he got re-elected, etc. Now the tables have turned, we have a Democrat in the Whitehouse, which produces a lot of angry conservatives. That's what you're witnessing here, IMO.

Seems like you want to blame "right wing nut-jobs." Others would blame Marxist ninnies - the American liberal.

The truth I think is that everyone is finally seeing the American govt. for what it is, and are kind of P.O.'d about it.

It's really not a liberal/conservative problem/disagreement, it's that we're all finally realizing that our government is run by criminals. People are getting mad and people are getting scared, when criminals are in charge of "lawmaking" ... that's some scary business.

People are stressed out.

Spend less time here, don't take things too seriously here, the serious troubles are in real reality not virtual reality.
They exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator. . . . Therefore, God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for their females exchanged the natural use for that which is contrary to nature. - Romans 1:25-26

Use liberals artistic manipulation of logic and language against them.

Yeah, its usually cyclical as Jefe noted...if Republicans take back the Senate and WH next year, i'm pretty sure it'll revert to left wing anger again like during the Bush years. This site wasn't about in the mid 90's but it may have been interesting to see how it would have performed and the demographics based on the split government idea.

Really? Is there a way to go back and see some of the posts from 2003? It's not that I don't believe you. . .but I would be very surprise if the bashing of Bush after 2 1/2 years in office was equivalent to the vitriol that is thrown at President Obama daily. . .even before he took office.

Maybe if I went back to members who have been here since 2002 or so? Is it possible to look at posts that are that old?

I'd really like to know.

The archives but tbh back in 2002 and 2003 it was mainly a very European forum population, around 04 was the part when we had the largest influx of Americans and a lot of left leaning posters got much more vocal...just looking through the older threads here may show you some of that.

There's a link at the top of the page to visit the archives, but I think it only goes back as far as 2005 or so. The vitriol towards Bush was just as bad, IMO.

There is an archive at U.S. Politics Online: A Political Discussion Forum Archives - Iraq War, Peace, Public Policy, Campaigns and Elections, Activism, Consumer Affairs, Civil Rights & Liberties, Healthcare, Abortion, Drugs & Alcohol, Environment, Gun Rights & Control, Edu

Believe me, we saw a lot of vitriol from a variety of folks drurin the Bush years. There was plenty of whacked-out noise akin to the Birther crap. Martial law was imminent, the 2004 election would be cancelled and Bush named dictator for life, etc.

And don't get me started about the insane and inane 9/11 conspiracy theories.....

The most common theme that I remember was basically "Bush is dumb".
