Spending and debt have increased to historical levels. Billions of dollars have been thrown away into a failed MediCare system, the No Child Left Behind Act which is not the answer to solving America's education woes, and to abuse of post Hurricane Katrina funds.

Bush promised to fix the solvency of Social Security to avoid its inevitable collapse, and yet, today we hear nothing. Bush promised to fix the tax code and make it simpler for all Americans, and yet, we have seen nothing. Amendment after amendment have been put up in the Congress by the few true Republicans that are still around to cut out the wasteful pork spending and they have been defeated overwhelmingly by a Republican controlled Congress. While North Korea and Iran get stronger and more of a threat every day the Republican administration does a song and dance, yet had no problem tearing into Iraq when certainly they were nowhere near the threat level of the Iranian regime.

And to try and take peoples' minds off of their indescretions, they shamelessly pander to the people with ridiculous Constitutional amendments that would prevent homosexual marriage and flag burning. If only they tackled the aforementioned issues with the same fierociousness.

People respect those who stand solidly on principles and are of an honest character. You may not agree with where they stand, but you will respect their honest convictions. The Republicans are no longer an honest party and their future vitality depends on those who believe in their true message to save it.
Nice post

I would very much like to see the GOP return from its current state to being a party of limited government interference and fiscal responsibility.

Excellent OP. Bush has given the middle finger to Conservatives on many issues. Forget any "compassion", Bush is no conservative.

I would like to see the Republican Party once again allow actual debate from all sides. I hear the party criticize the Democrats, but frankly in that respect I see very little difference between the Democratic leadership and the current Republican leadership.

So for 15000 voters we have a drop of 0.7 percentage points.

So judging by the numbers you quoted this is non-information correct? I could post a photo of random bubbles in my sink which would show more information, unless I'm somehow misunderstanding 'margin of sampling error'.

BTW, iam, one interesting thing I read about Goldwater is that this guy sucked so bad (because he was such an extremist) that it allowed Johnson to run a very ambitious social welfare program and people thought that he was the less of the two extremes. Goldwater's extremism basically allowed Johnson's Great Society Program to go essentially unchallenged and undebated at the time. In reality, the country was far more conservative than it appeared merely looking at the results of the LBJ vs Goldwater election, as shown by local elections.

Goldwater had one slogan: "In your heart you know he's right." Countered by LBJ's campaign: "In your gut, you know he's nuts."

Back in the day when the Dem's and Lib's had tight control of all media. Walter Conkrite and NYT's were the king of the hill. Today though Walter is gone and the NYT's is facing one round of layoffs after another. Its a different day and the Dem's or lets face it the Loonies are out of control.

Im just glad we have more sources of news now.

If willing to onvest the time and see things from a few sources you can read between the lines of the jaded news casters etc.

Watch a Bill Sneider from cnn one point view a John Gibson form fox and a juan williams from NPR and I get 3 distinct points of view and the truth lays muddled in the middle.

In the old days it was one point of view pretty much no cspan either

I think modern news is much better
