Russia Protests to U.S. Over Chechnya Forum Held in Washington

    MosNews
Moscow accused Washington on Thursday of allowing anti-Russian actions by permitting a North Caucasus conference to be held in the United States. The event was attended by a top Chechen rebel envoy, the Reuters news agency reports.

The conference, held in Washington and attended by Chechen rebel envoy Mairbek Vachagayev, is organized by the Jamestown Foundation, a non-governmental organization.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry protested to the U.S. embassy in Moscow, saying the event “advocates terrorism and runs counter to U.S. international obligations, including the clauses of the recently adopted global UN counter-terrorism strategy”.

“It was emphasized that the de facto connivance by the U.S. authorities in anti-Russian actions causes bewilderment against the backdrop of our two countries’ actively developing anti-terrorist partnership,” the ministry said in a statement.

Russia, which has finally managed to take under control most of its tiny mountainous Chechnya province after more than a decade of war, has often hit out at the West for what it sees as double standards and a tacit acceptance of terrorism.

Vachagayev was the personal emissary of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, who was killed by Russian troops in March 2005.

In July this year, prominent Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev died in a truck blast described by Moscow as a successful operation by its security forces. Basayev had claimed responsibility for a bloody school siege in the southern town of Beslan in 2004, in which more than 300 people died, more than half of them children.

Provided that this is true, the USA should be on that list. Do you have any links to news reports on this?

Yeah, anyone who tries to engage in diplomacy with these groups clearly must be labeled as sponsors of terrorism......

    What a silly concept.

Supporting terrorism means providing them weapons and funds.

But hey, don't let reason get in the way of swallowing Fidel's propaganda about the US.

What an utterly ridiculous and yes, thoroughly anti-american thread. Apart from allowing this person to come to this country, the U.S. government has absolutely nothing to do with him or the conference he is attending.

Furthermore, laca, perhaps you should be a little less obsessed with tarnishing the integrity of the United States, and make clear to everyone that he is currently a resident of France (I notice you didn't ask whether France should be on the list of states sponsoring terrorism for allowing him to fucking LIVE in their country). Finally, you also left out the utterly disingenuousness of the Russians for complaining that a man who was PARDONED by the Russians is merely permitted to come to this country.

Finally, if the U.S. should be on the list for this, then the United Nations should long ago have been added to the list of organizations SPONSORING terrorists for actively sponsoring actual TERRORISTS to come to this country to address the General Assembly.

Iaca, you have to take what some of these people say with the proverbial grain of salt. They are either entirely and unequivocally brain washed by western propoganda, unapologetic mindless bullies, CIA or DOD operatives, high school drop outs or Mossad agents.

(Hint: dump one of the Cuban flags next to your name and make out like you are a diaspora Cuban Jew who does nuclear research, who is sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, who enjoys living in Cuba, and who used to get sophomoric and drunk sitting at the bar with Fidel when he smoked cigars and drank rum.)

Maybe then these idiots will wake up and realise the opportunity they have by asking you questions about Cuba, your life, your society and your opinions on world issues.

The list is produced by the US State Department.
It is their own little hate-list.
    They made it.

It is very doubtful they will ever add their own name to that list.

On initial research of this group I couldn't find them in the US's own list of terrorist organisations: http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/fs/37191.htm . Perhaps you could steer me in the right direction before I spend more time checking it out?
