This is cool. Remember this:
Terrorism Awareness Project: Lest We Forget
Know this:
jihad is not about American policy towards Israel or about israel’s policy towards the palestinians. Many, particularly on the American Left, believe that if the U.S. decreases its support for Israel, and if Israel surrenders further territory, jihad violence will cease. This is as naïve as it is untrue. The Muslim Brotherhood, for instance, the first modern Islamic terrorist organization and the direct ancestor of Hamas and Al-Qaeda, was founded in 1928 – twenty years before the founding of the State of Israel.
Mahmoud Zahar, the Hamas Foreign Minister, says: “Even if the U.S. gave us all its money in return for recognizing Israel and giving up one inch of Palestine, we would never do so even if this costs us our lives.”
The jihad is not the result of Islamists’ current grievances about Afghanistan, Iraq or other hotspots in the Middle East.

That is all reasonable. But regardless, eliminating and solving the peripheral issues would nonetheless weaken support for 'jihadists' amongst the disenfranchised.
Right now the behavior of western institutions in the ME really only serves to give truth to the myths.

What are these peripheral issues you speak of ?
You say solving these issues would weaken support for 'jihadists' amongst the disenfranchised. These "peripheral issues" are OUR fault ? The cause of these peoples "disenfranchisement" is OUR fault and a problem we're supposed to solve FOR them ?
What behaviour ? What truth to what myths ?

Get educated people:
The jihad’s IMMEDIATE Objective is “Death to America.”
“America,” declared Al-Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith, “is the head of heresy in our modern world, and [as a result] . . . we have the right to kill 4 million Americans — 2 million of them children — and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands. Furthermore, it is our right to fight them with chemical and biological weapons.” The Saudi Sheikh Nasser ibn Hamed gives an even higher figure for appropriate American deaths: “If a bomb was dropped on them [i.e. the Americans] that would annihilate 10 million and burn their lands to the same extent that they burned the Muslim lands – this is permissible….”
Jihad demands the killing of “infidels” or their subjugation under Islamic law.
Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad jihad has offered three choices to the non-Muslim: conversion to Islam, submission under Islamic rule, or death. One manual of Islamic law states that if “the infidels” do not convert, “it is then incumbent on the Muslims to call upon God for assistance, and to make war upon them.”
The “Root Cause” of the Middle East Turmoil
There are many who are convinced that the existence of Israel and its “alien” presence in the predominantly Muslim Middle East is the “root cause” of the ongoing and never-ending violence in the area and of terror in the world. James Baker, the former secretary of state and head of the U.S. Iraq Study Group (no friend of Israel and of the Jews), also propagates this “root cause” theory of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Terrorism Awareness Project: Jihad
Israel is not the “root cause” of this strife and turmoil in the Middle East. Violence and war are endemic in Arab society and in Arab history. Israel was not involved in the deaths of the millions who perished in the Iraq-Iran war. Israel certainly has nothing to do with the slaughter in Iraq, in which on an average day, 100 people or more are killed in the deadly and never-ending Sunni-Shiite conflict. And even though Israel is the common enemy, it has nothing to do with the daily killings between the rival factions of Palestinians.
And how about terror? Again, many believe that Israel is the “root cause” of the terror that Arab-Muslims have visited and continue to visit upon the world. The attack on our country on September 11, 2001, the destruction of the two U.S. embassies in West Africa, the bombing of trains in Spain, the murderous attacks on the London subway system, and so many other acts of cowardly terror would have taken place even if there were no Israel. They are a reflection of the hatred that the Muslim world harbors against the West and its institutions. That hatred has nothing to do with Israel. And many believe that if only the United States would withhold its support from Israel (and get out of Iraq), terror would cease and the world would no longer have to fear the scourge of suicide bombings, the devilish invention that Arab-Muslims have visited on the people of the earth. It is an illusion. That hatred would continue even if Israel would cease to exist tomorrow.
Many claim that Arab-Muslim terror is the result of despair, hopelessness and poverty. But that is patently absurd. The Arabs are some of the richest people in the world, although, instead of using their enormous wealth to benefit their people, they squander it in bizarre luxury excesses for a privileged few. The nineteen hijackers were not poor or desperate. They were, without exception, well-educated people, members of upper-middle class families. The leaders of such Arab-Muslim terror organizations as Hamas, Hezbollah or Islamic Jihad are educated people, from the upper reaches of their societies. No, terror is the customary response of Arab-Muslims to express their grievances. It is a result of their culture and of their history.

Maybe a movie we should all see to TRY to understand the threat we're under ? Or, do we not care until another 9-11 kind of event occurs ?
Almost 70 years ago, Europe found itself at war with one of the most sinister figures in modern history: Adolf Hitler. When the last bullet of World War II was fired, over 50 million people were dead, and countless countries were both physically and economically devastated. Hitler’s bloody struggle sought to forge the world anew, in the crucible of Nazi values. How could such a disaster occur? How could the West have overlooked the evil staring it in the face, for so long, before standing forcefully against it?
Today, we find ourselves confronted by a new enemy, also engaged in a violent struggle to transform our world. As we sleep in the comfort of our homes, a new evil rises against us. A new menace is threatening, with all the means at its disposal, to bow Western Civilization under the yoke of its values. That enemy is Radical Islam.
Using images from Arab TV, rarely seen in the West, Obsession reveals an ‘insider's view' of the hatred the Radicals are teaching, their incitement of global jihad, and their goal of world domination. With the help of experts, including first-hand accounts from a former PLO terrorist, a Nazi youth commander, and the daughter of a martyred guerilla leader, the film shows, clearly, that the threat is real.
A peaceful religion is being hijacked by a dangerous foe, who seeks to destroy the shared values we stand for. The world should be very concerned.

Occupation, war, resource dependence and exploitation, religion, colonialism.
Yes. In many ways we share responsibility. Western colonialism in the ME goes back prior to the formation of Muslim militancy and the creation of Israel. You say solving these issues would weaken support for 'jihadists' amongst the disenfranchised. These "peripheral issues" are OUR fault ? The cause of these peoples "disenfranchisement" is OUR fault and a problem we're supposed to solve FOR them ?
We are heavily dependent on the flow of oil from the ME to have a functioning globalized economy.
And there has been plethora of imperial interventions in the ME ongoing to the present day. Be it Britain, Russia, France, the US.
Obviously the people of the ME are likewise responsible for their own lot in life, nobody should discount that. (and by fighting against the occupations they are taking responsibility) But in the end peace and stability in that region could be promoted with genuine assistance from the west, not through invasion, occupation, and nation building.
They 'myth' that the west is out to siphon the wealth from oil exploitation, destroy islam, and pave the way for a jewish homeland all through the ME. For many persons in the ME, and throughout the world, the current behaviors displayed by westerners in this region make it look as if this is exactly what the west is doing. And there is some truth to it, although most of the western public would never consciously pursue such goals. What behaviour ? What truth to what myths ?
I think if we value a better future for ourselves and for the people in the ME, we should radically change the way we currently go about our business there.

All the indicators are that Zionist behaviour towards Palestinians fuels jihad, anti-Americanism and Islamic Fundamentalism. Whilst not being the sole cause, it is a major factor in the rift between civilisations.
It needs addressing, not denying, despite the jackbooted Zionists queuing up to plead that it's nothing to do with their brutal and illegal activities.
