Hey, all. I'm Bobbi, from Minnesota. I telecommute my job, working either 12-8 or 1-9.

My real name is Tom, but that is hardly an exciting forum name. I am a college sophomore studying in Southern California, majoring in political science and minoring in computer science. I am Catholic, and the oldest out of 4 boys. I like honest and civil debate, which I hope I can find here. I am a registered Republican, but I am very unhappy with the mainstream views the party has developed on many issues.

I am a libertarian conservative, who believes in a limited constitutional republic form of government.

Regarding economics, I follow the Austrian School, and I am strongly in favor of free markets and free trade. Keynesian economics is a disaster. I call for abolishing the unconstitutional federal reserve system, ending fractional reserve banking, and returning to free and sound money policies controlled by markets, not centralized quasi-governmental bureaucracies masquerading as capitalists.

Taxation is a necessary evil that comes with government, and will always cause economic harm. To me, the current tax system is grotesque and spending is way out of control. Taxes should be minimal and apply to everyone. I support a state based tax system, where each state determines the types of taxes and the federal government takes a percentage of taxes from each state.

For social issues, I take the stance "do what you wish so long as you do not inflict harm upon others." We do not need government to protect us from ourselves. I am staunchly pro-life, and I believe that abortion is an act of aggression against unborn life, but I also do not support attempts at federalizing abortion law (conservatives and liberals are guilty of this). It should be left to the states, as is murder law, and the constitution should be followed.

Finally, I support non-interventionist (not isolationist!) foreign policy, just as Thomas Jefferson did. The USA is a great country, but we are butting our heads into the business of too many people that do not want our influence. We must respect sovereignty, just as we wish others would respect ours.

Talk about a long introduction. I thought I would only write a paragraph!
Mine does feel a bit stark by comparison.

Look at it this way. If no one asks, you don't have to tell! One can maintain a little mystery a little longer!

Hi. My name is Mike. I'm 64 years old, a veteran (Navy), and a retired federal employee (1970-2000). I'm still working full time, of course; who wouldn't, considering this economy? Anyway, I've got three children, five grand children, and a wife of almost 42 years of marriage. I started out life as most young people do, a liberal. I was brought up knowing and actually meeting people like "Scoop" Jackson, who was a very viable Democrat presidential candidate in the sixties until he died from a heart attack. And I was in high school when Kennedy was elected, and was as completely enamoured with Camelot as was everyone else in those years. Who can't remember where they were the day Kennedy was assassinated? But over the years, as I matured and my responsibilities multiplied, my philosophies matured as well. I progressed from being a mere liberal to becoming a staunch conservative. Somebody once said that when you're young you think with your heart, and as you grow older you begin to think with your head. Seeing and somehow understanding the damage that was being done by liberalism and how it was affiliated with so many radical thoughts and movements over the centuries, including nefarious things like social democracy (naziism), and socialist policies (welfare, social security) in this country, I have become convinced that our only hope of saving this country from itself is to vanquish progressivism and all its tenents, as well as those who conspire to do even more damage under the guise of liberalism but who are actually far more dangerous. So I support conservative causes, and a return to constitutional principles of smaller government, lower taxes, free enterprise, and personal liberty and the bill of rights. Our nation was founded on Christian principles, although religious tolerance was a principle as well. But it was not, and never has been a feature of the Constitution that there must be a wall in this country between church and state; that was a myth also devised by liberals, in whose ranks lived such men as Thomas Jefferson, who actually wrote those words long after he was president. Yes, Jefferson was very much a liberal, although he is revered as one of the authors of the Constitution and a Founding Father. Thank God, however, that he wasn't the sole author, for hundred and hundreds of his words were deleted from the final document by more conservative thinking men. The Constitution was designed, purposefully, to limit the breadth and scope of the central government, a concept almost totally eradicated in today's liberalized world. It's my fervent hope that we can return to the days when our central government did those things mandated by the constitution, and left to the states those things that were mandated to the states by the Constitution. God Bless America, and long may she reign!!

Remember, Conservatism is not a Republican thing, it's an American thing!
