You know I agree with you, however can you remember how many times the left has piled on FOX News for doing far less. FOX is the liberals punching bag and if FOX did what PBS did this board would be running wild once again bashing FOX.

While it is very true that many here would have a conniption fit if FOX did this, we really shouldn't stoop to that lowly level. I think we should leave that to the children and take the high ground ourselves.

That's not the point and has nothing to with anything regarding this OP. The OP is about PBS posting Obama's Job's speech that was not factual.

I probably learned it in school but I damn sure didn't remember the details after all these years.

Have you ever seen raw footage of a president and what gets aired later? The press is almost always bending over backwards to make a president look good. Some of the raw footage I saw of bush was 10x worse than some of the "fool me once ... we can't be fooled again" type gaffes. This is possibly just the same phenomenon at work, or something along the lines of what lutherf suggests, that Obama went off-script.

I think thats interesting about Lincoln though. Maybe Obama was thinking about how Lincoln was the first big-government republican.

"At one point Mr. Obama made a major gaffe; he identified Abraham Lincoln as the founder of the Republican Party.

Lincoln did not join the Republicans until 1856, over two years after the party was founded. The first Republican convention was held in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1854.

Such a gaffe would have brought huge amounts of ridicule and derision on George W. Bush, but in the case of Obama the media yawned.

Actually, they did more than yawn; government-funded PBS has altered the transcript of the President's speech, removing the offending comment.

The New York Times transcript has the following quote:

"We all remember Abraham Lincoln as the leader who saved our Union. Founder of the Republican Party. But in the middle of a civil war, he was also a leader who looked to the future -- a Republican President who mobilized government to build the Transcontinental Railroad -- (applause) -- launch the National Academy of Sciences, set up the first land grant colleges. (Applause.) And leaders of both parties have followed the example he set."

But how does it appear in the PBS transcript?

"We all remember Abraham Lincoln as the leader who saved our Union. But in the middle of a Civil War, he was also a leader who looked to the future - a Republican president who mobilized government to build the transcontinental railroad; launch the National Academy of Sciences; and set up the first land grant colleges. And leaders of both parties have followed the example he set."

So PBS has purposely altered a transcript containing a major gaffe by the President."

All the more reason why its such a huge gaffe. Every time The Obama goes off the script prepared by his handlers he goofs. Yet he's supposed to be a brilliant Hahvid professor. The guy's an Affirmative Action Forever poser, nothing more.

I thought I felt a bit of a tremor as all the high school American history teachers in the country and the hundreds of authors who have written Lincoln biographies cringed simultaneously along with Obama's speechwriters.

That explains it. If it wasn't on the teleprompter, then he was on his own. When on his own, his true capabilities uh, um, um, uh, uh, um, surface.
